Project 6 Proposal

Description: My first proposal is to photograph different sights from my balcony. I would like to take the viewer through an experience of showing how much goes on while looking out from my balcony. Every day is so new and interesting since I live on short vine. These sample images show an idea of how I will be capturing different individuals, events, weather, and more that I catch in the moment.
Description: My 2nd proposal is to photograph littering throughout UC. I want to show the viewer what types of objects people decide to throw out into the environment. I hope by documenting these images people can get a better understanding on how much trash is where we live. These sample images show an idea of types of shots I will take on any trash I find. I have always been very concerned with the environment and feel like people don’t realize how much waste and liter is created into the world. I hope this documentary will stand as a reminder to not liter and create emotion by the types of images I capture.

Project 6

FRANCE. 1968. Brie. by Henri Cartier-Bresson, image borrowed from Magnum Photo Archive
SPAIN. 1933. Andalucia. Seville. by Henri Cartier-Bresson, image borrowed from Magnum Photo Archive I chose this photo because it immediately caught my eye with how the wall creates a framing for the scene of the boys playing in what appears to be a destroyed town. I found it very interesting that all of the boy’s expression were happy when usually you would relate this type of scene with being sad. There are many questions that run through my mind while looking at this photo: what are the boys playing? Is there a war? why are there no girls? I also saw that the photo directs your attention towards the boy on crutches running away from the group which I found odd. I thought that the composition on this photo does a good job at bringing focus to the scene. With the wall being broken and creating a circular shape you are drawn directly to the boys playing. I like how the different textures and color complement each other as well by being dispersed evenly. I also noticed that the dark contrast on the three kids in the front brings your attention to the boy in crutches. With a large depth of field, you are able to capture all of the expression from each kid and feel closer to the scene. Since the photo what shot in in black, grey, and white the high exposure from the sky contrast well with the rest of the picture instead of being a distraction. Overall, this photo does a great job at utilizing the different elements of photography and really grabs your attention!
